Good job David! Wonder how far north they will be by the weekend....

The real early spots might have some small greys by this weekend in Central IL, but from what I saw down here today it's a little bit early even for the blacks. There was a report of micro greys near Springfield though... This kind of seems like one of those seasons where the whole state comes alive pretty much at the same time, sans far N IL. I would imagine they will be coming up quick by next week for sure. I'm going out Thursday to another patch, and back to the same spot as today on Saturday. I'll let ya know how things go for sure! Good luck if you get out this weekend Mark, see ya soon buddy.

Wow, Ducks!! Awesome morels. Ours are not that large yet. But, we did find over 20 today in about an hour. The caps are about an inch average. We had a thunder storm early this morning that dropped less than a quarter inch. We also had extremely warm temps today, high of 87. I figured with it being so hot, we should hit the woods. I knew this would bring out the early ones, but I wanted to get them before they dried out in the heat.

Evan, I think your morels should last pretty well in the woods, even with the heat and low humidity. The ground was quite saturated before this warm dry spell moved in. There's still probably good moisture levels in the ground, especially if you had close to a quarter inch of rain yesterday. But... if there's another week of hot dry weather, then things will start to dry out too much. Hope to get some good showers Thursday night.

Wow! Awesome morels Evan!
I'm so jealous of you guys, LOL!
I'll get out there eventually and run some down.
We got more rain last nite/now here
so if all goes well season should be great here
and yea David I think the whole state (except North)
will prob go nutzo about the same time.

I'd love to be in Shawnee this weekend/next week :)

It looks like we might get some rain tomarrow and cooler temps for a day or two. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Panic, they look good, but they are actually very small. Hopefully we will be getting larger ones by this weekend.

Just checked out the long range forecast, and it doesn't look good for the next week at least. Another big ridge of high pressure is forecast to setup in the E US which will block any rainfall and bring more wind and warm temperatures. This won't be anything like the last 2 seasons, probably a typical season where we're praying for rain and it doesn't come. We would be a lot better off right now if it weren't for a week straight of stiff wind and warmth/low RH. I am looking forward to a decent black crop though.

Going out tomorrow to a killer looking spot on private property, hope to find another little mess of blacks and some little greys if we're lucky... Mark, I sure wish I had some time off over the next week, S IL just got a ton of rain and storms. They are going to be finding bucketfuls in the next week.

We found another 30 today. We finally have enough to make dinner. I also picked some fresh asparagus at work yesterday. It was pretty cold out there today, but temps are supposed to rise and we got rain last night.

Springtime steak and eggs this morning. I marinated the sirloin in white wine and garlic overnight and made a fritatta with morels and asparagus. What a way to start out the day.

I also found 9 yesterday in town here in IL. Headed an hour south to see if I can do better today. Early season and its really dry. I will have to walk a long ways to find morels this year I fear.

30 blacks here in my local PA spot on Friday. 26 yeaterday in NJ. Headed south to do some exploring today. South of the Poconos there's been more rain than around here, and the trees are further along.

I found only 20 morels today in a bunch of hours of hunting. The gentleman I was with found 0. I guess you get those days. I tried to convince him that fresh from the woods chives/garlic mustard/poly squa + butter garlic eggs cheese and heavy cream makes a great fritata but I still gave him all but the two biggest :) I'm convinced I'm blessed enough now to find 23 tomorrow ROFL
